Fun fact, the mountain is named after George Everest and it was actually pronounced eve-rest (like in adam and eve)

Suppose you tie a rope around the Earth's equator. By adding an extra 3 feet to it's length and raising the rope up uniformly as high as possible it gains 5.73 inches in height.
