List of Nintendo Wii IOS's |

First things first, don't confuse IOS with ISO. Obviously, much different.
IOS is the operating system that runs on the Starlet coprocessor inside the Hollywood package. It provides services that are used by Wii code to access many system devices: USB, networking, security, app management, NAND flash storage, SD card, optical disc, and also WiiConnect24 features.
List of IOS's (does NOT include cIOS's!!)
IOS3 (versions 65280): Is a stub. A supported theory is that there are non-stub versions of IOS3 (only on NDEV Wiis), but when Pinkfish was leaked, Nintendo sent this stub on Wii Updates to prevent users from using IOS3 to install dev certs via Pinkfish.
IOS4 (versions 1, 3, 259, 65280). Version 3 used by the 'Pre 1.0' system menu aka Wii Startup Disc Menu. Remnants of a version 1 were discovered within the leaked 'Wii Startup Disc NAND'. Version 65280 is a stub. Non-stub versions are very basic and only contain minimal drivers.
IOS5 (version 514). Completely no information about this IOS. Can't be found on any normally purchased Wii, not found on any Wii Updates.
IOS9 (versions 1, 516, 518, 520, 521, 778, 1034) Version 1 found on the 'Wii Startup Disc NAND'. Other versions used by System Menu 1.0.
IOS10 (version 768) Version is a stub, first ever stub IOS released by Nintendo for Wii Updates.
IOS11 (versions 10 and 256) Used by System Menus 2.0 and 2.1. Version 256 is a stub.
IOS12 (versions 6, 11, 12, 269, 525, 526) Version 6 is the earliest known IOS with a time stamp of June 4th, 2006
IOS13 (versions 10, 15, 16, 273, 1031, 1032) Used by Photo Channel 1.0 and versions 2 & 3 of Mii Channel. Used by the 'system' component for Weather and News channels.
IOS14 (versions 257, 262, 263, 520, 1031, 1032) No additional info
IOS15 (versions 257, 258, 259, 260, 265, 266, 523, 1031, 1032) No additional info
IOS16 (versions 257, 512) Version 257 used by Pinkfish disc. Version 512 sent by Nintendo as a stub to stop hacks that used IOS16.
IOS17 (versions 512, 517, 518, 775, 1031, 1032) Used by early games such as Super Paper Mario.
IOS20 (versions 12, 256) Used by System Menu 2.2. Version 256 is a stub.
IOS21 (versions 514, 515, 516, 517, 522, 525, 782, 1038, 1039) Commonly used by 3rd party games.
IOS22 (versions 772, 777, 780, 1037, 1293, 1294) Version 772 from an early update disc.
IOS28 (versions 1288, 1292, 1293, 1550, 1806, 1807) Starting with this IOS, IOS's came in 15 modulated parts.
IOS30 (versions 1037, 1039, 1040, 2576, 2816) Used by System Menus 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 and non-Korean 3.3. Added USB keyboard support. Version 2816 is a stub.
IOS31 (versions 1037, 1039, 1040, 2576, 3088, 3092, 3349, 3607, 2608) Used by Weather, News, Mii, and Photo 1.1 channels.
IOS33 (versions 1040, 2832, 2834, 3091, 3607, 3608) No additional info.
IOS34 (versions 1039, 3087, 3091, 3348, 3607, 3608) No additional info.
IOS35 (versions 1040, 3088, 3092, 3349, 3607, 3608) No additional info.
IOS36 (versions 1042, 3090, 3094, 3351, 3607, 3608) Used by Mario Kart Wii (except the Korean version) and Brawl. IOS commonly patched for HBC.
IOS37 (versions 2070, 3609, 3612, 3662, 3869, 5662, 5663) First IOS sent by Nintendo to fix the signature signing bug (Trucha Bug).

MKW Character Rankings
All credits to XeR
This will be an opinionated list of what are the best characters for each weight class. There are three stats that I consider 'critical'. Those are Speed, MT and Weight. We can all agree that Speed is the most important. After that, some will say MT boost for extra speed gain during turns, while others will claim Weight is the 2nd most important stat because of WiFi lag bumps. Well, if you play offline a lot, MT is the obvious choice. In regards to WiFi, it depends. If you are a solid front runner (and/or you are good at dodging lag bumps) then MT is the better stat. If you are usually in the middle of the pack (especially if you main a Lightweight character), then Weight is the obvious more important stat. Here is my list of stat importance based on my opinion that MT ranks above Weight.
1. Speed (Max speed limit)
2. Mini Turbo (Amount of boost from MT)
3. Weight (Self explanatory, helps against lag bumps on WiFi)
4. Drift (Turning ability during drift)
5. Offroad (Self explanatory)
6. Handling (Turning ability when not in drift, pretty useless stat)
7. Acceleration (Self explanatory, only good if you can't do respawn MT's consistently?)
Best Lightweight Characters:
1. Baby Daisy (2 Speed, 1 MT, 2 Weight) She is wayyyyy overpowered!
2. Baby Luigi (2 Speed, 3 Weight) Not a bad 2nd option on Wifi considering you need as much weight as possible when using a Lightweight character online.
3. Small Mii (1 Speed, 1 MT, 1 Weight, 1 Offroad) Well rounded!
4. Baby Peach (1 Speed, 2 Weight, 1 Handling, 1 Accel)
5. Toadette (1 Speed, 2 Offroad)
6. Dry Bones (2 MT, 1 Drift, 1 Accel)
7. Koopa (2 MT, 1 Handling)
8. Baby Mario (3 Weight, 2 Handling)
9. Toad (2 Drift, 2 Accel) Straight garbage! Avoid the Mushroom Head, lol.
Best Middleweight Characters:
1. Daisy (2 Speed, 1 MT, 1 Handling) Overpowered, no point using any other character.
2. Medium Mii (1 Speed, 1 MT, 1 Weight, 1 Drift) You could use this because its well rounded, but Daisy is still too good to consider using Medium Mii
3. Luigi (1 Speed, 2 Weight)
4. Peach ( 1 Speed, 2 Drift, 2 Accel)
5. Birdo (2 MT, 1 Weight, 1 Offroad)
6. Diddy Kong (2 MT, 1 Drift 1, Accel)
7. Bowser Jr, (1 MT, 1 Offroad)
8. Mario (2 Weight, 1 Accel, 1 Handling, 1 Drift)
9. Yoshi (1 Weight, 1 Drift, 2 Offroad)
Best Heavyweight Characters:
1. Funky Kong (2 Speed, 1 Offroad) Funky Rules All
2. Rosalina (1 Speed, 1 Handling, 1 MT) The MT boost actually helps quite a bit for her to compete with Funky Kong, viable 2nd option
3. Bowser (1 Speed, 2 Weight, 1 Drift) If you worry a lot about lag bumps, this can sort of be a viable option??
4. Large Mii (1 Speed, 1 Accel, 1 Handling, 1 Drift)
5. Wario (2 MT, 1 Weight, 1 Offroad)
6. Dry Bowser (2 MT, 2 Offroad) Overrated character in my opinion, some ppl will swear that hes a viable 2nd option cuz MT MT MT!!, but with 0 Speed Stat, he simply loses too much time
7. Donkey Kong (1 MT, 1 Weight, 1 Accel, 1 Handling)
8. Waluigi (2 Drift, 1 Offroad, 2 Accel)
9. King Boo (1 Offroad, 2 Handling) If you use this character, there's no help for you! Not only that, you can't even use him for a one-off race on rSL for offroad considering Dry Bowser has a stat of 2 Offroad!

Guide to edit Mii names on a Hex Editor |

You will need a Hex Editor....
NOTE: If you are on Windows, I recommend HxD. You can find HxD on a google search very quickly. If you are on Linux, I recommend HxD via Wine emulation.
In this guide, HxD will be used. This guide assumes you already have HBC installed.
You will need the Savegame Manager GX HBC app. It can be found in my App Pack. Add me on discord (vega8365). Alternatively, you can find it via google pretty quickly. Just make sure you download the version for the Wii and not the vWii-Wii U version.
Launch HBC, launch Savegame Manager. At the top there are 4 small icons. Click the far left one that looks like a USB stick. Then choose Mii. Click on the Mii you want to extract, click Extract. Choose Custom.
Now a new menu will pop up. Click on the small folder icon at the top left. A keyboard will appear. Click on the Back button (at the top right) until the usb8:/ is completely gone. Using the keyboard enter this in - sd:/miis
Click OK. The keyboard menu will go away and you will now be at the window displaying the contents of the miis folder of your SD card (will be empty if there are no Miis). Click on the small checkmark icon at the top right.
Savegame Manager will now say - "Extract to: sd:/miis". Click OK. Once sucessfully extracted, click OK again. Click the small X icon on the top right. Press the Home Button on your Wii Remote and choose Back to Loader. then Wii Menu.
SD card into computer. Open up HxD, and open the mii that you saved on your SD card.
Starting at Column 2 on Offset 00000000 is the beginning of the Mii name. The very first 4 digits of any Mii file has to do with certain basic attributes (male, female, color), don't mess with those. Every character/symbol is defined by a string of 2 bytes (4 digits). The first character/symbol for the Mii Name are the bytes for Column 2 & 3. Second character/symbol are the bytes at Column 4 & 5, etc etc. So if you followed correctly the final (10th) character/symbol would be at Offset 00000010; Columns 4 & 5.
Obviously, there are tons of Miis that don't use 10 character-length names. Any 'slot' for a character/symbol that was not filled out is simply listed as "00 00". Now you are probably wondering how the heck do you know what a character/symbols 2-byte hex code is. You can google "ASCII to Hex converter", and just type what name you want and use converter will give you the corresponding hex code values. For starters here is a quick list of character/symbols with their correspondent hex codes.
00 00 = Slot with no character/symbol filled in
00 20 = Space
00 24 = $
00 2A = *
00 30 = 0
00 35 = 5
00 39 = 9
00 41 = A (upper case)
00 61 = a (lower case)
00 7A = z (lower case)
Obviously, the hex codes for special symbols (such as Stars, Greek characters, Korean letters, Colored Wii Button Icons, etc) will be more complicated and too tough to memorize. Usually I just keep a small list of the hex codes for my favorite special symbols and use them when desired.
Now that you know some hex codes. It's time to do some edits. Let's say you have a Mii name of "bot 3". Starting at Offset 00000000; Column 2, the hex code would look like this - 00 62 00 6F 00 74 00 20 00 33 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00" And let's say you want to change the name to "pot 3", highlight the first byte (the "00" of "00 62"), and simply type "00 70". Once you typed 00, the cursor will move along as you type and the 62 will be replaced by the 70.
Save changes. HxD automatically backs up the original file with an added ".bak" extension. Store the backup if desired. SD card back into Wii.
Now before we re-install our Mii, go to the Mii Channel and delete the version that's on your Mii Channel. This is needed because if we reinstall the same Mii (even though different name) it can cause a glitch, and the new Mii may not install. Once Mii is deleted, exit back to Wii Main Menu, launch HBC.
Launch Savegame Manager GX, click on USB icon and click the SD card icon. Choose the miis folder, and select your Mii. Select Install, click OK. Click OK again once successfully installed. Click X icon to exit, and exit back to the Wii Menu. Visit your Mii Channel, you will see your Mii with it's new updated name. Congratz!
And that's a basic tut to edit Mii names on a Hex Editor. I made this tutorial because My Avatar Editor can be iffy on Linux Wine, and I think it won't work at all in FreeBSD's Wine. For more info of Mii Data, go HERE
Troubleshooting: If Mii won't re-install onto Wii, try using the old school Mii Installer HBC app.
